[he's not sure which seems more like Neal and Peter -- finding a way to outsmart Adler and leave him with a ship he can't get into on pain of death or finding a way to get into it and reclaiming the art for whoever]
He had another one of my friends as leverage, we didn't have a choice. He then tried to kill us after, but the FBI managed to swoop in and save the day. He thought he had gotten away with the art, but we didn't disarm the explosives as effective as we could have. We closed in on the warehouse and ...
[He gestures with his hands as though to say "BOOM."]
Yep. Adler lost it. He pulled a gun on me and Peter had to shoot him. But what none of us knew at the time - and I didn't find out until much later that evening - is that Mozzie had gotten into the warehouse somehow and switched out the treasure with some of my old artwork.
We scored millions of dollars worth of art, all the while being trapped as a hostage by a sociopath.
[Dylan's silent for a moment, after Neal finishes, looking first impressed and then thoughtful] I'm guessing that art didn't end up in the hands of the proper authorities? [and he's -- not sure how he feels about that. on one hand, he is the thief!Dad here. on the other, though, he's also a Fed and one who worked a few art theft cases in his time]
I bet. [he takes a moment, that said, and then finally shakes his head, almost incredulous] No offense, but your life sounds even more fucked up than mine, and that's saying something.
[he hums, offering Neal a brief, apologetic look, both for potentially being a dick there and for the sad state of affairs that is is life. when the look fades, when he starts again, it's with a subject change so that Neal doesn't have to dwell on that shit too long]
You know, I gave my guys a choice between the money we got off of Alcron and a chance to work with the people I work with. [guess what they picked]
[he seems pleased by that, even if he already knew as much]
Yeah. That's the reason why I drew up a card for you. [because he fits his ideals -- good men and women who might also be cons, who want something more than just the money] If you were from my reality or whatever ... [he might have offered Neal a place with them, there, before now]
[he nods. he's pretty sure he showed it to Neal, but then again, that was on top of him just getting back from home and having to deal with that and the whole oh, by the way, I'm a con truthbomb, so. he really doesn't blame him if he doesn't remember]
The Magician. [a beat] I've still got it up in my room. I figured I could give it to you, if ... [if he decided he wanted it or whatever]
for dylan }
Last I checked, no. But Adler probably wanted the job.
[More like just wanted the art for himself.]
Anyway. He found the thing, and when he found out about the booby traps, kidnapped me and Peter to force us to get it open.

[He pauses, then smirks.]
The other half may have been used to fund an escape hatch to Cape Verdi.

Peter know about that? Because I really can't imagine him being thrilled.

I probably would have done the same thing. I always was a sucker for the game more than the payday.

Sure. Yeah, I'd like that.

I'll grab it for you later. [a beat] Unless you want it right this second?
no subject
Nah, later is fine.

So, uh ... [what now, now that they've both shared bits of their lives, and had a sentimental moment?]
no subject
Want to go grab a drink?
[Because as much as Neal doesn't approve of Dylan's drinking, today they've earned one.]

[go, go, alcoholic~!]
no subject
I know just the place.
[And off they go to get their drink on. /scene]
